x² - 3x = 10
x² - 3x - 10 = 0
(x - 5)(x + 2) = 0
x = -(-3) +/- √((-3)² - 4(1)(-10)
2(1)
x = 3 +/- √(9 + 40)
2
x = 3 +/- √49
2
x = 3 +/- 7
2
x = 3 + 7 x = 3 - 7
2 2
x = 10 x = -4
2 2
x = 5 x = -2
