x = the distance from me to the ant

tan24= (5)/(x) \\ x(tan24)=5 \\ (x(tan24))/(tan24) = (5)/(tan24) \\ x= (5)/(tan24)
x≈11.23018386952108
x≈11

The ant is about 11 feet away from my foot.

Formula: T= O/A
T is Tangent.
O is opposite side.
A is adjacent.
In this problem, T is 24 degree. O is 5 feet.
you are finding A.
if you substitute,
Tan(24) = 5/A
A x Tan(24)=5
A=5/Tan(24)
put 5/Tan(24) in the calculator.
you will get
A=11.23 feet
