Your formula for the area of a trapezoid is A=1/2 (base 1 + base 2) h
so, when you plug' n' chug your equation will look like this:
A= 1/2 (6 + 5) 1.5
= 1/2 (11) 1.5 (You can actually divide by 2 instead of multiplying by 1/2)
= 8.25 ft.^2
there you go.:)

Answer:

Area of the seat = 8.25 square feet

Explanation:

The shape of the Seat of a bench is given to be in a trapezoid.

So, in order to find the area of the seat, we apply the formula to find the area of the trapezoid.

Now, length of the parallel sides : a = 6 feet and b = 5 feet.

Height = 1.5 feet

\text{Area of the trapezium = }(1)/(2)(a+b)* height\\\\\implies \text{Area of the seat = }(1)/(2)(5+6)* 1.5\\\\\implies Area = (1)/(2)* 11 * 1.5\\\\\implies Area = 8.25\text{ square feet}

Hence, Area of the seat = 8.25 square feet
