the sum of 6 itmes a numbber (6 times x or 6x) and 8 (8) (6x+8) is equal to (=) 5 times the number (5x)
6x+8=5x
subtract 5x form both sides
6x-5x+8=5x-5x
x(6-5)+8=x(5+5)
x(1)+8=x(0)
x+8=0
subtract 8 from both sides
x=-8
