square both sides
x+10=x^2-4x+4
subtract x from both sides
10=x^2-5x+4
subtract 10 from both sides
0=x^2-3x-6
factor
what 2 numbers multiply to get -6 and add to get -5
the numbers are -6 and 1
so
(x-6)(x+1)=0
if xy=0 then assume x and y=0
so
x-6=0
x=6
x+1=0
x=-1

x=6 and/or-1
