Yes, because it changed the society of south africa, so there was no slavery or rascismo there.

Nelson Mandela is an important figure in world history because he was an influential figure in the anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa. He was a leader in the African National Congress and spent years in prison. After his release he helped to negotiate the end of Apartheid and became an important leader in South Africa for decades following.
