For x = -1, we have:

\begin{gathered} x^4+4x^3-2x^2+9 \\ \Rightarrow(-1)^4+4(-1)^3-2(-1)^2+9=1+4(-1)-2(1)+9 \\ =1-4-2+9=-3+7=4 \end{gathered}

Therefore, the polynomial evaluated in x=-1 results in 4
