step 1. 5x-4(-3x+5)=-3
step 2. distribute 5x+12x-20=-3
step 3. combine like terms 17x-20=-3
step 4. add 20 17x=17
step 5. divide 17 x=1
step 6. fill x in first equation y=-3(1)+5
step 7. combine y=2
x=1 y=2

step 1. fill in for y -3x-3(-5x-17)=3
step 2. distribute -3x+15x+ 51=3
step 3. combine 12x+51=3
step 4. minus 51 12x= 48
step 5. divide by 12 x= 4
step 6. fill in x to find y y=-5(4)-17
step 7. combine y=-20-17
y=-37 x=4
