The diagonal is the hypotenuse of a right triangle with the sides of the square as legs.
By Pythagoras (s = side)
s^2 + s^2 = 15^2
2s^2 = 225
s^2 = 112.5
s = sqrt(112.5)
s = 10.6 cm (to the nearest tenth)

Answer:

The length of one side of the square is approx 10.6 cm.

Explanation:

Ashley draws a square that has a diagonal of 15 centimeters.

As it is a square, it will have 4 sides equal.

Now when a diagonal is drawn using 2 sides of the square, then it will form a right triangle with 2 sides as (suppose x) and hypotenuse as 15.

Solving this question using Pythagoras formula we get:

x^(2) +x^(2) =15^(2)

=>
2x^(2) =225

=>
x^(2) =112.5

=>
x=√(112.5)

x = 10.60

Hence, the length of one side of the square is approx 10.6 cm.
