Elena saw that a local store was having a 50% off everything storewide sale. She had a coupon for 50% off the final price of any item at that store, and the coupon said, “Combine with any other offers!” She said, “I think I can get anything I want for free!” Do you agree? Explain.

initial discount: 50 % off

Second discount: 50% of the final price

Elena Is wrong, she can't get anything she wants for free, but for 75%

For example:

If a t-shirt original price is $100

With the first discount = 100 x (50/100 ) = 50

Second discount = 50 x (50/100) = 25

Total discount amount = 75

100-75 = 25

Final price = $25 ( a 75% discount from $100)
