p (combined) = m (total) . v
= (55.0 + 2.0) . 8.50
= 57.0 . 8.50
= 484.5 kg.m/s

Answer:

Momentum, p = 484.5 kg-m/s

Step-by-step explanation:

Mass of your brother, m = 55 kg

Mass of the skateboard, m' = 2 kg

Total mass of your brother and the skateboard, M = 55 + 2 = 57 kg

Speed of skateboard and brother, v = 8.5 m/s

The combined momentum of brother and the skateboard is calculated by taking product of combined mass and common velocity as :

p = M × v

p=57* 8.7

p = 484.5 kg-m/s

So, the combined momentum of the system is 484.5 kg-m/s. Hence, this is the required solution.
