If you'd like to know why:

Tension is a type of stress on rocks where the rocks are pulled apart in opposite directions. The rock either stretches or it breaks.

A divergent boundary is a good example. This type of boundary occurs when two plates are pulling away from each other.

A normal fault on the other hand is created when a vertical stress causes the hanging wall to be pushed downwards relative to the footwall.

Notice that in both scenarios, the rocks are pulled apart. Horizontally in the first, vertically in the second.
