A student solved the equation 6s – 10 = 2 + 3s + s and got s = –4. His work shown below is his check for this problem.

6(-4) -10 = 2 +3(-4) + (-4)
-24-10 = 2 + (-12) + (-4)
-34 = -14
Which statement best applies to the work shown?
A. His check does not work, thus s = –4.
B. The work in his check is all correct, thus s = –34.
C. The work in his check is all correct, thus s = –4.

6 s - 10 = 2 + 3 s + s
6 s - 10 = 2 + 4 s
6 s - 4 s = 2 + 10
2 s = 12
s = 12 : 2
s = 6
Answer:
The work in his check is all correct, thus s ≠ - 4.
