x-intercept

We know a line intercepts the x-axis of a graph whenever y = 0

Therefore to determine the x intercept of the graph of the equation

y = 0.5x+ 5

we set y = 0, then

0 = 0.5x + 5

Solving the equation...

-5 = 0.5x

-5/0.5 = -10 = x

Answer: the x intercept is x = -10
