Hydrogen's period number is 1. It is the first element on the periodic table it has 1 valence electron, it's chemical symbol is H and is group number is 1.

Period number is 1. It's group number also is 1. Hydrogen is a non-metal, yet happens to be on the metal side since it has that many valence electrons.
