Subsistence farming is a type of farming when farmers grew food that was enough for their family. This farming was done enough for one or two families. Food produced from the subsistence farming were consumed and not for trade purposes.

Cash crop was much more profitable in the colonial period. Farmers produced cotton and tobacco. The crops were farmed in the southern region of America and traded with European countries.
