There is an occupation known as sheepherding. This is when a person, also known as a shepherd, has and takes care of sheep. Sheepherding is not as popular of a job as it was before, however it was a greatly popular occupation in Jesus’s time. They actually talk about Shepherds a lot in the bible, and Jesus used many examples including shepherds in his stories and parables. One of the main parables with sheep would be the “The Parable of the Shepherd.” And in that story, Jesus is represented as the shepherd and is even called “The Good Shepherd.” Even though the occupation alone does not seem that important, shepherds take care of sheep so without shepherds we wouldn’t have anyone to harvest the wool from the sheep and if the wool never gets shaved off it could actually be very harmful to the sheep. This is just a little bit about shepherds and sheepherding; however, you could learn a lot more from the Bible or your local library.
