collect like terms on the left and simplify
5/3 v + 4 + 1/3 v = 8
(5/3 + 1/3) V + 4 = 8
2v + 4 = 8

You would combing like terms. In this case, it is 5/3v and 1/3v. So you would add them together to get 6/3v,or just 2 because 6 divided by 3 is 2. So now you have 2v+4=8.
