Enlightenment thinkers believed logic should guides decision making. They argued the logic of government lay in the people.
John Locke was the most notable Enlightenment thinker who argued the people must consent to their government. He also argued that the people had the right to change their government if it is not meeting their needs. The US Constitution gives the people the right to change their government as it is a government created "for the people by the people".
