On a hot summer day, heat waves can be seen rising from the asphalt. What type of heat transfer do the heat waves demonstrate?

There's evidence of all three types of heat transfer there:

-- The asphalt got hot in the first place by radiation heat transfer
from the sun.

-- The hot asphalt heated the air right next to it by conduction.

-- The ripples and waves that we see in the air rising from the
pavement are the hot air rising and the cooler air around it sinking ...
that's convection.
