Geomery was developed by a man named Euclid and all of geometry is based around his proofs, the other answer is correct as well.

geometry is the study of shapes and how to manipulat them to find the measures of angles, sides, and more.

geo means earth
metry means measure

so geometry means earth measuring or meashuring the earth
