For the answer to the question above,
You want to be shielded from all three types of nuclear radiation. If you find shielding that blocks "gamma" radiation, then it will most likely also block the other two types.

when nuclear radiation enters the tube of a Geiger counter, it "ionizes" the atoms of the gas contained in the tube?

the particles that make up protons an neutrons and are thought to be basic units of matter are made up of quarks?

8. Answer is: gamma.

Gamma rays contain much more energy (most penetrating) than other waves because they have a greater frequencies.

Gamma rays are the electromagnetic waves with the shortest wavelengths (1 pm), highest frequencies (300 EHz) and highest energy (1,24 MeV).

During gamma emission the nucleus emits radiation without changing its composition, if for example have nucleus with six protons and six neutrons (carbon atom) and after gamma decay there is nucleus with six protons and six neutrons.

9. Answer is: ionizes.

A Geiger counter is an instrument used for detecting and measuring ionizing radiation.

The Geiger counter is filled with an inert gas (noble gases) at low pressure, it conducts electrical charge when a particle or photon of radiation makes the gas conductive by ionization.

For example, it can detect alpha particles.

Alpha particle is nucleus of a helium-4 atom, which is made of two protons and two neutrons.

10. Answer is: quark.

Quark is a type of elementary particle and a fundamental constituent of matter.

Quarks form composite hadrons (protons and neutrons). Protons and neutrons are in the nucleus of an atom.

Hadrons include baryons (protons and neutrons) and mesons.

There are six types of quarks: up, down, strange, charm, bottom, and top.
