Prompt: Marisol’s mom is a dental hygienist, living paycheck to paycheck to make ends meet. Marisol’s dad has been sick for years and is unable to work. Marisol is in 8th grade and has low confidence that she can have a bright future. She believes that she can’t go to college or find a career that will pay her well someday. You have a chance to convince Marisol that she has more opportunity than she knows. 1. Write a three paragraph (4-6 complete sentences each) essay arguing why Marisol should not limit her future. 2. Organize your essay in the following way: Paragraph 1: Show Marisol that you understand her reasons and why she feels the way she does. Paragraph 2: Reference two or three concepts from this class to convince Marisol to not limit herself. You can reference things such as Grit, Growth Mindset, Super Spot, Strong Questions, Tap water vs. Fiji water, and the things you have learned about college, financial aid, and careers. Paragraph 3: Summarize your arguments and show Marisol that despite her background, she has many options.

I know it seems like a lot but it's really not! Marisol shouldn't limit her future because everyone is different. Marisol has the power to do anything she pleases as long as she puts her mind to it. Make sure to also talk about "growth mindset" in your paragraph! Motivation is key with anything.

Also, it would be best to add that her home life shouldn't stop her from going to college! Their are always DIFFERENT options/ways to go to college. Financial aid, loans, etc. Hope this helps out!
