The perimeter of a triangle is 84 meters. The longest side of the triangle is 7 meters less than twice the length of the shortest side, x. The middle side is 7 meters longer than the shortest side. What is the length of each side of the triangle?

Answer:

The length of the sides are 42m, 31.5m and 24.5m

Explanation:

The perimeter of a plain shape can be computed by adding all the sides of the plain shape.

For a triangle, the perimeter is the sum of the 3 sides.

Let the length of the shortest side be x

The longest side = 2x - 7 meters

The middle side = x +7 meters

Therefore,

2x - 7 +x - 7 + x = 84

4x = 84 + 14

4x = 98

x = 24.5 meters

The longest side = 2(24.5) - 7 = 42 meters

The middle side = 24.5 + 7 = 31.5 meters

The length of the sides are 42m, 31.5m and 24.5m
