13-7
13-3=10
7+the three we took from the thirteen=10
add those two answers together to get 20!

I know its confusing, but you can do it!

8 + 5 by removing 2 from the 5 to leave 3, add this 2 to the 8 to make 10 then add the 3 to the 10 to give 13.
