What is the effect of gravity pulling downward on an object

The effect is that the object appears to have "weight".

I should mention that the question has some squishy 'rubber' in it.

Gravity ALWAYS pulls "down". The reason is that WHEREVER
gravity pulls, we CALL that direction "down". That's how we know
which way is 'down'.
