Answer: 49 yd

Subtract the unshaded region from the total area to find the shaded region.

Total Area:

(4+3)*(4+5)=Area\\7*9=63

The unshaded area consists of 2 triangles, so we have to find the area of each triangle.

(1)/(2)(2*4)=4\\\\(1)/(2)(4*5)=10\\\\4+10=14\\

The combined area of the unshaded region is 14 yd^2

Now subtract the unshaded from the total to find the shaded:

63-14=49

The shaded region is 49 yd^2
