2x+4y=22
2x-2y=-8
......................subtract
6y = 30
y = 30/6
y = 5

2x+4y=22
2x+4(5)=22
2x + 20 = 22
2x =22 -20
2x = 2
x = 1

answer: x = 1 and y = 5
