D. the sequence of layers in the rocks
The layer on the bottom is the older and vice versa
The top layer is the youngest.

Radiometric decay involves measurement of the amount of certain radioactive isotopes. After their amount is measured, and the rate of their decay is known, the age of a sample may be estimated.
