Answer: x=-3 and y=5

Step-by-step explanation: 4x+17=y, -3x=y+4

4x+17-17=y-17

4x/4=y/4-17/4

x= y-17/4

-3(y-17/4)=y+4

-3(y-17)/4=y+4+4(4)

-3(y-17)=4y+16

-3(y-17)

-3-(-3)(17)

-3y+3(17)

-3y+51-51=4y+16-51

-3y-4y=4y-35-4y

-7y/-7=-35/-7

y=5

x=5-17/4

-12/4

x=-3

x=-3, y=5

Answer:

x = -3, y = 5

Explanation:

first, take the 3x + 17 = y and put it in place for the y in the second equation.

-3x=4x+17+4

then, solve the equation.

-3x=4x+21

-3x-4x=4x-4x+21

-7x=21

-7/-7x=21/-7

x = -3

substitute in other equation

4(-3) + 17 = y

-12 + 17 = y

y = 5

answers are x = -3 and y = 5
