How does a particle of air move as the sound of wave passes

a sound wave consists of compression and rarefaction which propagate in the same direction the sound wave is moving
a particle in a compressed region will get more packed with other particles (high pressure)
while a particle in a rarefaction will move away from other particles (low pressure)
