Which of the following lines from King's letter is meant to be interpreted literally?

There comes a time when the cup of endurance runs over
We have gone through all of these steps in Birmingham
In those days the church was not merely a thermometer
It was a thermostat that transformed the mores of society.

I had this in a quiz and got it right. The answer is: We have gone through all of these steps in Birmingham.

The reason being that it is the only sentence that is literal. They've Literally gone through all of these steps while in Birmingham.
