President of the United States -- that was the highest office held by Ronald Reagan, who was the third husband of actress Jane Wyman. After Reagan and Wyman divorced in 1949, she married Hollywood music director and composer Fred Karger (in 1952), who previously had been married to actress Patti Sacks.
When Ronald Reagan became President of the United States in 1981, he was the first person to hold that office who had been divorced. By then, though, Reagan had been happily married for almost thirty years to his second wife, Nancy Davis -- whom we know primarily by her married name, Nancy Reagan. The two of them had met when Nancy was a young actress mistakenly placed on the blacklist of suspected communists in Hollywood, and Ronald Reagan helped her with that problem as president of the Screen Actors Guild.
