. Some fuel cells are powered by hydrogen. Scientists are looking into the decomposition of water (H2O) to make hydrogen fuel with the help of the Sun’s energy. What challenge do scientists face with this task?

The challenge that scientists face with the decomposition of water (H2O) to make hydrogen fuel with the help of the Sun’s energy is the source of hydrogen. Sun’s core is made up of hydrogen and helium and its temperature is so high that even the metal with the highest melting point melts easily. It is impossible to extract this.

Answer:

A. Decomposing water requires a high activation energy.

Step-by-step explanation:

  • As about 3000°C of energy is required for the more than half of the water molecules to get decomposed and is called as splitting of water. Requires excess of energy to over the barriers of activation.
