W=70
this was 10 more than (+10) twice the number of envelopes (2a) amy stuffed
W=10+2A
find A
W=70
70=10+2A
subtract 10 from both sides
60=2A
divide both sides by 2
30=A
amy stuffed 30 envelopes

the number of envelopes Amy stuffed = x
twice the number of envelopes Amy stuffed = 2x
10 more than twice the number of envelopes Amy stuffed = 2x+10


2x+10=70 \\ 2x=70-10 \\ 2x=60 \\ x=30

Amy stuffed 30 envelopes.
