Maggie bought 2 boxes of cupcakes for her daughters. She ate one cupcake herself and told her 3 daughters to share the remaining cupcakes equally. If there were c cupcakes in each box, what is the expression for the number of cupcakes each daughter gets?

The total number of cupcakes is
c+c=2c. When Maggie ate one cupcake there are now
2c-1 cupcakes left to divide between the 3 daughters. So each daughter gets
\boxed{(2c-1)/(3)} cupcakes.
