Explanation:

For a) We have a starting amount of 39,523,462 people in 2019, if each year it grows at a rate if 1.72% then 1 year after 2019 would have 39,523,462*1.172 people. In 2 years we would have 39,523,462*1.172*1.172 or 39,523,462*1.172^2 people etc. We could conclude that after t years there would be 39,523,462*1.172^t people. In part b) just calculate this when t=11 and round this to the nearest whole number, I think you can do it yourself.
