It's not law or medicine as it wasn't allowed for women to learn or do such things. Women in that time were also not allowed to go to universities, this indicates Painting to be the answer. Painting doesn't require much knowledge and is seen as an elegant activity in those times. It could have been used to determine the value of a woman in those times.

The correct answer is Medicine.

It was more on the nurses and assistants side, not the full fledged doctors side. Women were used to help women give birth or help those sick as nurses normally do.
