Americans started to understand equality with all people, and not just race either. Americans finally started to understand our First Amendment rights and that they belong to not just white people, not just to men, but to everybody. The supreme court rulings helped with this because it showed people their rights and that no matter who you are you get them, and the presidential addresses helped people realize that segregation is not ok and that it is the peoples' responsibility to fix that and to treat everyone with kindness and respect.

People started understanding that everyone is equal and that rights should be given to everyone. That's why the president and the supreme court managed to give many new amendments that forbade things like racial segregation, or protected women in the workplace.
