Over the course of a year, the equator is the latitude that receives
the most direct solar rays for the most amount of time.
BUT . . .
The places on Earth where the highest temperatures have been
recorded are NOT on the equator.

Places with high temperatures are found at the equator because the equator never is tilted away the from the sun, unlike other parts of the world.
