= 3
? + 5 = 3 × 9
? + 5 = 27
? = 27 - 5
? = 22

The number is 22

$(a+5):9=3 \\\\ a+5=3*9 \\\\ a+5=27 \\\\ a=27-5 \\\\ \boxed{a=22}$
