The term speciation refers to the process of new species' origin or the divergence of a group of individuals of the same species population which become different from the original set of individuals. On the other hand, the term sympatric refers to an event that occurs in the same place with respect to another.
In this case, we could say then that sympatric speciation, as stated in the first answer option, is a process where different populations of the same species in the same geographic area form a new species. We can see an example of this in the following picture at the right of it (sympatric speciation):
The green oval represents a population, and the blue little spot in the green oval below the first oval below the word "Sympatric", represents a primordial change in the phenotype of the individual of that species, and in the third and fourth ovals of "Sympatric" represents the formation of that new population of a different and new species.
