on the grid to the right, the point A(-6,2) has been plotted along with lines y=x and y= -x. Find the image of this point:a) acreflection across y=x: A(-6,2)b) y = -x: A(-6,2)

We have the point

A(-6,2)

a) In order to find the coordinates of the A' when A is reflected across y=x we have the next rule

(x,y)\rightarrow(y,x)

therefore

A'(2,-6)

b) In order to find the coordinates of A' when A is reflected across y=-x we have the next rule

(x,y)\rightarrow(-y,-x)

therefore

A'(-2,6)

As we can see in the next image

where y=x is the line in green and the line in blue is y=-x

on the grid to the right, the point A(-6,2) has been plotted along with lines y=x-example-1
