b^2 + b = 2
b^2 + b + 1/4 = 2 + 1/4
(b + 1/2)^2 = 9/4
b + 1/2 = (+-) sqrt 9/4
b + 1/2 = (+-) 3/2
b = -1/2 + 3/2 = 2/2 = 1
b = -1/2 - 3/2 = -4/2 = -2
