A Man Said to the Universe

by Stephan Crane

A man said to the universe:
"Sir, I exist!"
"However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation."

One way that the author reflects the theme of this poem is through the use of

A) rhythm.
B) dialogue.
C) rhyme scheme.
D) onomatopoeia.

The correct answer would be (B) dialogue. If the passage did not have its dialogue, us readers would not be able to see how the universe could care less about the man.
