first you multiply 5 by 2 to get 10 because 2 1/5 is and improper fraction then add that 10 to the numerator so that you have 11/5 then do the same to 1 3/4. multiply 1 by 4 and add that to the numerator making 7/4. After this step you have to find a common denominator between the 2 fractions. To do this it is easiest to multiply the 2 denominators by each other.
4•5 this gets 20 so the common denominator between the 2 fractions is 20.
now the fractions are 11/20 and 7/20
