I took the test.

A.) is incorrect.

D.) is incorrect.

C.) I can't see how that could be the answer

So, B.) seems like the most reasonable answer.

He is perhaps showing slight jealousy - reminiscence, and remorse. (I have not read this, so don't know the names to use.)
The man who is speaking feels almost as though the ill man is a newer him, that his own death would be of no upset to anyone.
