So, we need to do this calculation!
0.5*0.8 = ?

First we need to convert 0.5 and 0.8 into fractions.
The first number after the decimal point (0.#) is in the tenths place, which is to say that the value there is 1/10 of 1. Simplified version... take the number (Example 5 in the number 0.5) and put it over 10. Do it for both numbers!

(5)/(10)* (8)/(10)

Before we multiply we should reduce them to simplest forms. 5/10 can be divided by 5 on both terms. 8/10 can be reduced by 2 on both terms. Let's look at the new problem:

(1)/(2)* (4)/(5)

Multiply across! Multiply the numerator with the numerator, and denominator with the denominator... remember:

(numerator)/(denominator)

(1*4)/(2*5) =
(4)/(10)

Reduce the fraction by dividing each number by 2.
So our final answer is:

(2)/(5) or 0.4
