In the US and many other countries, the legal drinking age is 21. Drinking while underage can result in legal trouble.

Over-the-counter medications are legal to use; prescribed medications are legal as long as only the patient prescribed is taking them; smoking cigarettes is legal if the individual is over 18 years of age.
