First, find the slope (m):

Apply the formula:

m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

Given the points:

(x1,y1) = (-8,1)

(x2,y2)= (-2.4)

m= 4-1 / -2-(-8) = 3 / 6 = 1/2

Slope intercept form:

y=mx+b

Where:

m= slope = 1/2

b= y-intercept

So far:

y = 1/2x + b

Replace (x,y) with any point , for example (-8,1), and solve for b

1 = 1/2 (-8) + b

1 = -4 + b

1+4= b

b= 5

Slope intercept form:

y= 1/2x + 5

point slope form:

y-y1 = m ( x- x1 )

y- 1 = m ( x + 8 )
